Jamie Mayne was born and currently works in Oakland, CA. Mayne’s work explores the themes of environment, gender, social constructs, consumer culture and traditional craft process. The use of traditional hand craft is a nod to a nostalgic idealism. Though her use of weaving invokes the dreamy tales of home industries, the use of repurposed waste is an acknowledgment of the current realities of production. Some of her processes include natural dye, embroidery, felting, screen printing, weaving, melting, plastering and viewer participation.
