About the Richmond Art Center: Founded in 1936, The Richmond Art Center is the largest visual arts center in the East Bay. Our mission is to be a catalyst in Richmond for learning and living through art. We do this through hands-on learning in our well-equipped studios, outreach programs in the community, and contemporary exhibitions in our galleries.

About the Exhibition Program

Who we exhibit:

  • The Richmond Art Center exhibits the work of established, early career and aspiring artists. We also partner with Bay Area groups and organizations to present exhibitions.

Who we serve:

  • The Richmond Arts Center serves diverse constituents reflecting the local community of Richmond and the surrounding Bay Area.

Exhibition Proposals: We encourage exhibition proposals. Please consider the following before submitting a proposal:

  • Read the Review Criteria to understand how exhibition proposals are assessed.
  • The Richmond Art Center is a non-profit organization with limited resources. We are unlikely to consider out-of-state exhibition proposals, and projects with high costs and no identified sources of funding.

Review Process: Exhibition proposals are reviewed by Richmond Art Center staff and Exhibition Committee members on a rolling basis. We schedule exhibitions at least 12 months in advance.

Review Criteria

Artistic Excellence

  • What is the significance of the exhibition, the artist/s, and the works of art?
  • What is the quality and clarity of the project’s goals?

Relevance   

  • Does the exhibition have the potential to engage and inspire audiences?
  • Why this exhibition in Richmond? Why now?
  • Has the artist/s exhibited at the Richmond Art Center before? Is the work new?

Feasibility

  • Are the budget, timeline and logistics for the exhibition realistic?

How to Submit: To submit an exhibition proposal please complete our online form which asks for the following information:

    • Exhibition Description:
      • Keep the description short, no longer than 1 to 2 paragraphs. Are you proposing a solo or group exhibition? Who are the key participating artist/s? What is the theme of the exhibition?
    • CV / Bio:
      • CV/BIO: Include an artistic CV or bio for the curator, artist or group. If proposing a group exhibition, please include brief bios for key proposed artists.
    • Budget and Logistical Information:
      • Give a short overview of specialized budget needs (shipping? installation?) and ideal timeline for your exhibition.
