Call for Entry: This exhibition will be juried by curator, educator and artist Kevin B. Chen. Artists who live in California and work in any media are invited to enter. Selected works will be presented in the South Gallery at the Richmond Art Center in Spring 2020.

Juror Awards: $1,000

About the Juror: Kevin B. Chen has been involved in the Bay Area arts community for over two decades. He currently serves as faculty at San Francisco State University’s School of Art and at Stanford University’s Department of Art and Art History, a member of Recology’s Artist in Residence Program Advisory Board, and a Curatorial Committee member of Root Division and Pro Arts Gallery. He recently served as co-chair for the City of Oakland’s Public Art Advisory Committee and managed the de Young Museum’s Artist Residency Program and Public Programs. More info…

HOW DO I APPLY?

Eligibility: Participation is open to all artists who reside/work in California

Artwork Requirements:

  • Media: All visual art media
  • New and original work: Artwork submissions must be original work created since 2017 that have not previously been exhibited at the Richmond Art Center

Prepare Your Submission:

  • Number of Artworks: Artists may submit up to three artworks per entry.
  • Artwork information: Include caption information for each artwork submission (title, year, media, dimensions, price/value)
  • Digital Images: Image files should be jpgs and less than 1 MB file size. File naming convention: Lastname_FirstInitial_NumberOfImage.jpg (example: smith_r_1.jpg)
  • TIP: Images really must be less than 1 MB to upload to our database. Simple ways to resize an image:
    • MAC: Open your image in Preview then go to Tools/Adjust Size. Adjust the resolution until the Resulting Size is less than 1 MB
    • PC: Open your image in Paint, select use the Resize button in the toolbar to change the size
    • Online: There are many online programs that can resize images (eg. bulkresizephotos.com or resizeimage.net)

Entry Fee:
Payment can be made online, over the phone or in person at the Richmond Art Center

  • Non-Members: $40 nonrefundable fee per entry entitles the submission of up to three artworks (one image per artwork).
  • For RAC Members: $35 nonrefundable entry fee. Membership must be valid through end of exhibition Friday, May 29, 2020.

TERMS
Fees: Entry fees are non-refundable
Selection: Entry does not guarantee selection for the exhibition
Selection: Unfortunately the juror cannot provide individual feedback on their jurying decisions
Installation Ready: Selected artworks should be installation ready with any hanging hardware attached (rods, hanging wire, d-rings, etc.), and labeled with artists full name on the back/underneath. Work on paper should be framed or mounted.
Delivery: Selected artwork must be delivered to the Richmond Art Center during scheduled drop off dates:
     Artwork Hand Delivery Days/Time: Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, 10am-4pm
     Artwork Shipped Delivery Days: Artworks shipped should arrive at the Richmond Art Center between Monday, March 2 and Friday, March 6, 2020. Shipped artwork needs to be delivered with a postage paid return address label. Work must be shipped in sturdy, reusable cardboard containers. DO NOT use loose styrofoam “peanut” packing
Insurance: The Richmond Art Center shall insure selected artwork for duration of exhibition
Images: Artists agree to allow the Richmond Art Center to use images of selected artworks for publicity and education purposes
Sales: For any artwork sales: artist receives 70% of the sale price; Richmond Art Center retains 30%
Pick Up: All unsold artworks must be picked up on the scheduled days: Saturday, May 30, and Monday, June 1, 10am-4pm
