Meet Teaching Artist Vida Vazquez!

This week we’re highlighting beloved teaching artist Vida Vazquez. Vida believes in big earrings, celebrating authenticity, and encouraging boldness through vibrant handmade jewelry, wearables, and art for the home.

Vida teaches after-school in RAC’s offsite community program, and for the past two years has played a vital role in launching a fashion design class at Kennedy High school.

Vida’s work explores themes of femininity, spirituality and joy. Working in materials including polymer clay, gemstones, fibers, and reworked vintage, Vida creates her work by hand in her Oakland studio. Recently Vida was featured in a KQED Arts editorial “rethinking what it means to be creative” during shelter-in-place.

Under Shelter: Jos Sances

In response to the multitude of ideas and new forms of creative expression we see artists tackling as they shelter-in-place we’re highlighting new projects that represent how artists are adapting, responding and imagining during this period of self-isolation.

The first iteration of this series features a new video by Jos Sances showing the intersection of the COVID-19 outbreak with his ongoing investigation into the environmental crisis.

Support Our Future

At this time we need your help.

The Richmond Art Center Renewal Fund hopes to raise $300,000 over the next few months.

Your support at this crucial time will help cover the loss of income we have already experienced when we were forced to suspend our onsite and community programming on March 16, 2020. Please consider making a contribution today to the Richmond Art Center Renewal Fund to safeguard our future.
