Place as Landscape/Place as Concept

Featuring work by both established and emerging enamelists, Place as Landscape/Place as Concept brings together enamel arts that explore place from an American perspective. In the United States, where the sheer size of the country has created an incredible diversity, concepts of place are intimately connected to identity and culture. The works in this exhibition use a range of traditional and experimental enameling techniques to explore place not just as scenery but as a way of understanding who we are. By turns complex, conflicted, melancholy, and beautiful, these images and objects show us our country as well as ourselves.

This exhibition expands upon the American showcase presented at BLAZE: International Contemporary Enamel Exhibition at the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute in Taipei (2018).

About the Center for Enamel Art: The Center for Enamel Art was founded in 2013 to preserve and promote the art of enameling, and to foster community among enamel artists and art-lovers alike. The Center exists in partnership with several other organizations to produce workshops, exhibitions, and other educational programs for and about enameling in the San Francisco/Bay Area and elsewhere in the U.S.

Enamel Art at the Richmond Art Center: Richmond Art Center is proud of its history promoting enamel as an art medium. We have taught enamel arts in our metals studio for over 50 years. Recent exhibitions presented at the Richmond Art Center to feature enamel art include: Alan Osborne – Expressionist Enamels (2009), Beyond Borders: Experimentation and Innovation in Enameling (2012), and California Now: Clay, Glass, and Enamel Art (2015). Con el trabajo de esmaltistas establecidos y emergentes, Lugar como Paisaje/Lugar como Concepto reúne artes del esmalte que exploran el lugar y el paisaje desde una perspectiva estadounidense. En los Estados Unidos, donde el tamaño del país ha creado una increíble diversidad de paisajes, los conceptos de lugar están íntimamente relacionados con la identidad y la cultura. Acerca del Centro de Arte del Esmalte (Center for Enamel Art): El Centro de Arte del Esmalte se fundó en 2013 para preservar y promover el arte del esmalte y para fomentar la comunidad entre los artistas del esmalte y los amantes del arte.
