Propose an Exhibition

Local artists, curators and collaborative groups are invited to submit exhibition proposals that introduce new artists, artwork and perspectives on art. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis.

About the Exhibition Program: Our exhibitions feature the work of predominantly Bay Area artists at different stages in their careers – established, early career, students and youth. The goals of our exhibition program are to introduce new artists, artwork and perspectives on art; engage Richmond audiences; enhance the visibility of underrepresented groups/artists; and serve as a catalyst for community interaction.

Exhibition Proposals: Please consider the following before submitting a proposal:

Richmond Art Center is a non-profit, community-focused organization with limited resources. We do not consider out-of-state exhibition proposals, and are unlikely to consider projects with high costs and no identified sources of proposed funding.
We get a lot of solo exhibition proposals. Please know, we are more likely to consider group exhibition proposals.

Review Process: Exhibition proposals are reviewed by Richmond Art Center staff and community advisors on a rolling basis. We schedule exhibitions at least 12 months in advance (sometimes less!).

Review Criteria

Artistic Excellence: What is the significance of the exhibition, the artist/s, and the works of art? What is the quality and clarity of the project’s goals?
Relevance: Does the exhibition have the potential to engage and inspire audiences? Why this exhibition at Richmond Art Center? Why now?
Feasibility: Is the timeline and logistics for this exhibition realistic?
