Art in the Community Program Update: Summer Camps are Here!
Our Art in the Community program has begun its summer schedule! Thanks to the EdFund, the summer camps held at Richmond community centers have grown to four sites this year. Artists Marie Kamali and Chris Castle will be teaching at Booker T. Anderson, Parchester, Nevin and Shields-Reid community centers.
Our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) summer camps return this year in a partnership with Grant Elementary School as well as the WCCUSD’s office of after school programs. Artist Neil Rivas’s School for Young Superheroes (SYS) will explore engineering through designing and building their community superheroes. For the second session, Artist Daud Abdullah will guide students in building Kinetic Mosaic Sculptures. Artist Victoria Ayala will be a supporting instructor for both sessions. We are excited and grateful to have no less than 6 adult and two youth volunteers helping out over the course of the two STEAM camps!
