Keep Richmond Beautiful: Thank You and Goodbye

ryse mural

In 2016, youth from RYSE Youth Center, working with lead artist AGANA, created Keep Richmond Beautiful on the loading ramp at Richmond Art Center’s 25th Street entrance.

Ten years later, the mural has naturally faded, and it’s time to make room for something new. Before it’s painted over, we’re taking a moment to honor the young artists and the community they represent.

Keep Richmond Beautiful
grew from conversations among Richmond youth about the beauty of their city and the creative talent within their community. The mural’s inspiration came from RAW Talent, a program at Making Waves Academy that supported students exploring poetry, creative writing, spoken word, and music. The mural features RAW Talent members Donté Clark and Nyabingha “Nya” Zianni, along with titles of music productions and performances that took place in the community.

Thank you to RYSE Youth Center, lead artist AGANA, Donté Clark, Nyabingha “Nya” Zianni, and the young people who helped bring this mural to life. Thank you for sharing your vision of Richmond with us.

Thank you, and goodbye, and keep Richmond beautiful!
