“Tomorrow Stories” prompts artists to imagine a hopeful future

In celebration of Richmond Art Center’s 90th anniversary, we’re thrilled to unveil two new artworks welcoming visitors at our Barrett Avenue and 25th Street entrances.

The Tomorrow Stories project invited two local artists to imagine a hopeful future for Richmond and its people.

At the 25th Street entrance, a mural by Hayley Ferreira, professionally known as the Bay Area Muralist, celebrates Richmond’s natural landscape and history, with the coastline and port in the background. Seedlings transform into radiant blossoms, which Haley describes as a metaphor for Richmond Art Center itself: “a brilliant idea that blossomed into something beautiful and enduring for everyone to enjoy.”

At the Barrett Avenue entrance, a new banner depicting a painting by Adrian Delgado honors Richmond’s layered history of labor, migration, resilience, family, and imagination. Intertwined hands, roots, and wooden textures pay tribute to the generations whose work built the city, while Richmond homes and two children represent family, community, and the future. Shaped by community feedback, the design reflects the strength and humanity of Richmond’s residents.

(Adrian Delgado will be presenting an upcoming solo exhibition of his work, Home, opening at Richmond Art Center on January 20, 2027.)

We’re grateful to Hayley, Adrian, and their teams for creating these meaningful works that celebrate the city of Richmond and will welcome the community for years to come.

Tomorrow Stories was made possible by a grant from the East Bay Fund for Artists, a grantmaking initiative of the East Bay Community Foundation. We’re grateful for their support in bringing these new artworks to Richmond Art Center.
