All sacred living entities – land, people, plants, and animals – have independent and codependent paths that they are on. This solo exhibition of paintings by Luis Garcia weaves portraits, spirit animals, and ritual imagery into a rich visual tapestry honoring cultural heritage, ancestral memory, and the deep connections between people, nature, and spirit. The work carries personal, reflective qualities, but within that intimacy, it also evokes universal themes of strength, resilience, determination, love of cultural heritage, community, nature, beauty, and hope.

About the Artist: Luis Garcia is an El Salvadoran/Pipil, polio survivor, Oakland-based artist. He graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 2002 with Honors, earning an individualized B.F.A. combining Painting and Sculpture. His work has been exhibited at various esteemed venues, including the de Young Museum (Open 2020), Chico Museum of Northern California, Marin MOCA, Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, Galleria de la Raza, SOMArts Cultural Center, Berkeley Art Center, and David Brower Center. Through his visual art, Luis focuses on reconnecting with his ancestral roots, creating bridges that link back to his origins. He believes that knowing who you are, and where you’ve come from informs you of where you are going.
