Spring Exhibitions at Richmond Art Center
Weaving Between the Lines | A Turbulent Landscape
Embracing the Edges of Time | 60th Annual WCCUSD Student Art Show
Richmond, CA: This spring, Richmond Art Center unveils four new exhibitions, on view April 8 through June 5, 2026, with an opening reception on Saturday, April 11, 1pm-3pm.
In the main gallery, Weaving Between the Lines explores the dynamic relationship between tradition and innovation in contemporary fiber art. This collaborative exhibition between the Golden Gate Weavers Guild and the Bay Area Basket Makers Guild brings together over thirty artists showcasing time-honored techniques while expanding weaving’s possibilities.
Celebrating 88 years, the Golden Gate Weavers Guild is the oldest weaving guild in Northern California. Its members build on decades of shared knowledge, carrying forward historic practices while also continually testing their limits: reimagining pattern, material, scale, and form. Co-curator and weaver Lonnie Lee observes, “Weaving is an ancient practice with infinite possibilities.” The Bay Area Basket Makers Guild, founded in 1984, embraces an equally expansive approach. The guild welcomes both tightly structured, technically rigorous baskets and looser, more intuitive explorations of material and form. Co-curator and basket maker Bob Darchi notes, “Several of our artists specialize in work that a viewer might wonder why they are even considered baskets.”
A special event, Unraveling the Lines: An Artist-Led Conversation and Exhibition Walkthrough, will take place Saturday, April 25 at 11am. Together, the event and exhibition celebrate the dialogue between the two guilds, highlighting weaving as a living Bay Area practice that is rooted in history, yet radically open to reinvention.
Also coming this spring are:
- A Turbulent Landscape: Randy Jayne Rosenberg‘s mixed-media solo show explores a world in flux, from climate shifts and wildfires to social upheaval, and examines how we seek balance amid constant change.
- Embracing the Edges of Time: A multi-faceted project by Susan Almazol, including an exhibition and public dance, explores aging as a time for curiosity and growth. At its center are Almazol’s self-portraits, begun at age 71, which reflect a body approached with reverence and trust rather than criticism or rejection.
- 60th Annual WCCUSD Student Art Show: A teacher-curated exhibition highlights the artistic talent of students from public middle and high schools across the West Contra Costa Unified School District.
Richmond Art Center is located at 2540 Barrett Avenue, Richmond, CA 94804. Our galleries are open Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.
