Beyond the Studio

Resources, services and events that provide accessible tools and support for lifelong learning in the arts beyond the studio.

Family Days

Twice a year, Richmond Art Center hosts two free open house events that welcome people of all ages to explore and enjoy art together. Family Days feature drop-in art-making activities, live music, food, and games. Each event is often centered around a theme or cultural celebration, such as raising awareness about the environment or honoring traditions like Día de los Muertos. These intergenerational events offer a space for families to engage in creative expression, learn about different cultures, and connect with the local community.

Professional Development for Educators

Our Bring Art to Your Classroom workshop series is designed for K-6 public, charter, and private educators in West Contra Costa who want to integrate art into core subjects like language arts, social studies, math, and science, or teach art as a standalone discipline. This series typically consists of three consecutive Saturday workshops, led by teaching artists experienced with diverse student backgrounds and abilities.

Art in the Community

Our Art in the Community classes expose students of all ages—children, youth, families, and adults—to a variety of artistic disciplines. These classes are offered at locations across Richmond and San Pablo and feature high-quality curricula developed by practicing Bay Area artists. Offered at no cost to students, these classes are taught by a team of teaching artists who reflect the diversity of our community.
