Working from personal sketches and reference images, in this three-day workshop participants will learn how to draw and paint using vitreous enamel. Starting with sheet copper, students will transform their source images into works of art. Participants will create new work through enamel sifting processes, underglaze pencils, ceramic oxides and overglaze painting. Learn to paint with heated, pigmented beeswax. Topics/techniques covered include safety, copyright, priming techniques, fusing, layering, brushwork, collage and transfer work. Master basic techniques, such as getting a smooth surface, removing pin holes and heat manipulation, with time for repetition and experimentation. Screen printing is an extremely versatile craft with several techniques well-suited to embellishing ceramics. Build your own silk screen, transfer an image to it and use the screen to create a sampler of screen printing techniques on ceramics.
